Comfort and Hope in Grief

Leaden clouds, threatening and dark

atop winter trees, bare and black,

when all at once the robin red

alighted on a branch ahead.

no colour elsewhere could I see

but for bonny robin on yonder tree.

Our Father, today I am sad. During Christmas week, two young people – in separate incidents – were killed in road accidents in our town. You know who they are. This means that there are families who are hurting badly and distraught with grief, their lives having been changed forever. It will take a long, long time for them to come to terms with what has happened to them. Please take care of them Father and when the time is right, give them a sign of comfort and hope … just as the little robin did for me today.

In Jesus Name, Amen.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

psalm 34:18 new international version

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

psalm 147:3 new international version

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Matthew 5:4 new international version

Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.

john 16:22 new international version
