So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
Genesis 1:27 New International Version
Where do our feelings of self-worth and our Human Dignity come from? Are we propped up by people telling us how great, how beautiful, how witty, how clever we are? On the flip side, do we crumble under the scorn of others and take to heart their words when they tell us we are insignificant, dull, ugly – a waste of space?
Stop! Don’t believe any of it. When people bolster us with their admiration, remember those are temporary feelings that can be destroyed by fluctuating emotions. And believing the put-downs of others does not make you what you are either – that is a lie that Satan rejoices in. He is the father of lies, so don’t believe any of it!
Our true dignity and self-worth comes from God alone, the One who created us and breathed His life-breath into us – the One who made us in His image. It comes from our great God who created everything from nothing – the whole of creation. And the pinnacle of this creation is you and I. When you look at mighty mountains, remember that God prizes you even more than them. When you look up at the stars, remember that you are even more wondrous and precious than they are. His love for us is deeper than the deepest ocean, higher than the highest mountain, greater than the expanse of all the galaxies put together.
With a love as great as that, how can we not fail to throw up our arms in praise and fall to our knees in prayer to our Father God. Remember that any worth or scorn that comes from the world is only temporary, whereas the unlimited and unconditional love that God has for you will last forever and can never be destroyed.
Give thanks to the God of heaven,
for his steadfast love endures forever.Psalm 136:26 English Standard Version
Our Father, it’s such a wonderful concept to know that we are your prized possession above all else in the whole of your creation! It makes my heart leap with joy. Please help others to see and believe this. Lift them up from whatever their sufferings are and to know just how much they mean to you, their Father and Creator.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
