Praise Him, All You Shining Stars

It’s easy to shout encouragement to our children at their school sports day or cheer on our favourite football team. Yet, some of us feel embarrassed to display any emotion when it comes to God. I remember a vicar once saying that, as he watched the congregants file past while taking Communion, they all looked as if they’d each lost a five pound note! There are times to be reverent in church, but surely sharing Communion with Christ and His Church is something to be joyful about.

I must admit, I’m no different. Many find it easy to display joy and praise while others are afraid to appear awkward. Me? I’m one of the ones that’s lost a fiver. I’m not suggesting we all start doing a Conga towards the Communion table, but we could loosen up, lose the pious mask and unleash the inner joy that God has blessed us with. The Communion is just an example – there are more opportunities to show our praise, especially while singing or smiling joyfully while laying our little envelopes in the collection plate.

“They are my own people, and I created them to bring me glory.” – Isaiah 43:7 Good News Translation

Praising God should be the most natural thing in the world.

Psalm 148 New International Version

Praise the Lord.

Praise the Lord from the heavens;
    praise him in the heights above.
 Praise him, all his angels;
    praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
 Praise him, sun and moon;
    praise him, all you shining stars.
 Praise him, you highest heavens
    and you waters above the skies.

 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for at his command they were created,
 and he established them for ever and ever—
    he issued a decree that will never pass away.

 Praise the Lord from the earth,
    you great sea creatures and all ocean depths,
 lightning and hail, snow and clouds,
    stormy winds that do his bidding,
 you mountains and all hills,
    fruit trees and all cedars,
 wild animals and all cattle,
    small creatures and flying birds,
 kings of the earth and all nations,
    you princes and all rulers on earth,
 young men and women,
    old men and children.

 Let them praise the name of the Lord,
    for his name alone is exalted;
    his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.
 And he has raised up for his people a horn,
    the praise of all his faithful servants,
    of Israel, the people close to his heart.

Praise the Lord.

Our Father,

Thank You for giving us life and the wonderful creation all around us. We marvel at its intricacies and its beauty. You are worthy of our love and our praise, Lord – not just because of all that You give us, but because of who You are.

Even though we feel a great love and joy bubble up inside of us, Father help us to tell You and show You the immensity of our devotion.

In Jesus Name,

Amen.
